Shellfish of all kinds, ranging from great clams to tiny cowries, cling to the reef while shoals of brightly coloured tropical fish dart throughout the coral gardens. Tuesday, 08 December 1998 (B,L) Join a 4WD Wilderness Safari to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the sea, with long stretches of sandy beaches and rocky headlands. The National Park covers almost 17,000ha, extending along the coast between the Bloomfield and Daintree Rivers. Your naturalist guide will introduce you to many of the rare birds, mammals, insects and amphibians. Cruise along the Daintree River throughout the world's oldest tropical rainforest and perhaps you may see some crocodiles. Journey up throughout Alexandra and Noahs Ranges to Cape Tribulation where BBQ lunch will be services at a private safari site. Safe swimming is available. In the afternoon visit Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), an unusually shaped and geologically ancient mountain range, for a walk throughout the Valley of the Winds. Watch sunset whilst enjoying a cool glass of champagne. A gourmet barbecue is served in the quietest restaurant in the world under the desert stars. Accommodation: Desert Gardens, 1 night Sunday, 06 December 1998 (B) This morning there will be an opportunity for the energetic to climb 'The Rock', the worlds largest monolith being 8.5 km in circumference. A little later take a base tour to see caves adorned in Aboriginal rock art. In the afternoon journey to Alice Springs through this waste and arid country arriving early evening. Accommodation: Territory Inn, 2 nights. Monday, 07 December 1998 (B) This morning learn about the Aboriginal people in their traditional environment. Be tempted by a variety of bush tucker and listen to the Dreamtime stories. In the afternoon join a town tour of Alice Springs, a thriving town right in the heart of the Australian desert. A visit to the Old Telegraph Station and Royal Flying Doctor Base will give you an insight to life in the Australian outback. Tuesday, 08 December 1998 (B) Morning at leisure before transferring to the airport to join departure flight. (Time permitting, we recommended an early morning hot air balloon flight at extra cost). No space on tours will be reserved without payment. Bookings will be acknowledged and participants advised of final details. If minimum numbers are not achieved, alternative arrangements or a complete refund of the published tour price will be made.
